How do I get my company recommended in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?
To be recommended in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, your pages must be indexed by Google and eligible to show a snippet; Google adds no other technical requirement. Then write pages that answer each sub-question a buyer asks, with sourced facts, because AI Mode runs several related searches and links the pages that answer them best. No one can guarantee inclusion.
Facts
- Google says there are no additional technical requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode: a page must be indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet. (Google Search Central: AI features and your website)
- Google says its AI features may use query fan-out, issuing multiple related searches across subtopics and data sources to build a response. (Google Search Central: AI features and your website)
- Clicks from AI Overviews and AI Mode are counted in Search Console's Performance report, under the Web search type. (Google Search Central: AI features and your website)
- Google-Extended does not affect a site's inclusion in Google Search and is not used as a ranking signal, Google says. (Google: Google's common crawlers (Google-Extended))
- By July 2025, AI Overviews had over 2 billion monthly users and AI Mode over 100 million monthly active users in the US and India. (Alphabet Q2 2025 earnings call)
How does Google pick the pages shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode?
Google draws the supporting links from its own search index: it breaks a question into related searches, reads the indexed pages that answer them, and links the ones its answer relies on. A page that is not indexed, or that blocks snippets, cannot be one of those links.
Does blocking Google-Extended remove me from AI Overviews?
No. Google-Extended controls whether content helps train Gemini models and grounding in some other Google systems; Google says it does not affect inclusion in Search. AI Overviews and AI Mode are part of Search, governed by Googlebot and snippet controls.
| Control | What it affects |
|---|---|
| Googlebot in robots.txt | Crawling for Search, including AI Overviews and AI Mode |
| noindex | Whether the page is in Search at all |
| nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet | How much of the page can be shown, AI features included |
| Google-Extended | Gemini training and grounding in some other systems, not Search |
What content does query fan-out reward?
Query fan-out rewards a site that covers the sub-questions around a purchase, one page each: price, comparison, how it works, limits, where you operate. Each page with a direct answer up front is a candidate for one of the searches Google runs behind a single question.
How do I measure results from Google's AI features?
Use Search Console: AI feature clicks are in the Performance report with Web search, so watch indexed pages, impressions and clicks per page. easyIndex connects Search Console at the start, records the starting point and reports indexing and clicks next to AI visitors.
Step by step
- Connect Search Console. Verify the site, submit the sitemap and note the starting point for indexing, impressions and clicks.
- Make sure pages can be indexed. Check that Googlebot is allowed, no page you want shown has noindex, and snippets are not blocked.
- Map the sub-questions. List the related questions a buyer asks around your service: price, comparison, process, limits, location.
- Write one page per sub-question. Answer in the first sentences, then give facts with numbers, dates and sources.
- Request indexing of new pages. Resubmit the sitemap and inspect key URLs in Search Console after publishing.
- Track and extend. See which pages get impressions and clicks, then cover the next sub-questions.
Common mistakes
- Adding nosnippet or a low max-snippet to pages, which limits what AI features can show from them.
- Blocking Google-Extended expecting to leave AI Overviews, or allowing it expecting to enter them.
- Covering a whole topic on one long page instead of one page per sub-question.
- Publishing new pages without resubmitting the sitemap or checking that they got indexed.
How easyIndex solves it
easyIndex connects Search Console first, then has your coding agent build the pages over MCP, audits each one, checks it live, and reports indexing, clicks and AI visitors per page, for US$ 30 per website a month, 7 days free.
Frequently asked questions
Is there special markup for AI Overviews?
Google says no. There is no extra technical requirement beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet.
Can I opt out of AI Overviews but stay in Search?
Google points to snippet controls such as nosnippet and max-snippet, which limit what is shown in Search, AI features included.
Where do AI Overviews clicks show in Search Console?
In the Performance report, under the Web search type, together with the rest of the site's search traffic.
Will Google include my company in AI Overviews?
No one can promise that. Indexed, specific, well-sourced pages raise the chance, and Search Console shows what happens.
