What is zero-click search?

A zero-click search ends without the person clicking through to any website, because the answer, a map or an AI summary already sits on the results page. SparkToro measured 58.5% of US Google searches ending that way in 2024. The searches that still send visits are those where people compare, check a price or decide, so build pages for those and measure impressions as well as clicks.

Facts

Why do zero-click figures disagree so much?

They measure different things. One study counts every search on a clickstream panel, another counts only keywords that show an AI Overview, and Google reports total clicks across all sites, which can stay stable while one site loses its share.

Check the period, the country, the device and whether the figure covers all searches or a selected keyword list before you quote a number.

Which searches still send visits?

Searches where a short answer is not enough still lead to clicks: comparing options, checking a price or plan, finding a specific provider, booking or buying. A definition or a quick fact is answered on the page itself.

  • Comparisons between options or providers
  • Prices, plans and what is included
  • "Near me" and named-company searches
  • Step-by-step tasks someone wants to follow on your site

Is a website still worth it when nobody clicks?

Yes, because the answer on the results page and in AI assistants is built from websites. A page that states your facts clearly can be shown or cited even without a click, and the person who later wants a price or wants to buy still lands on a site.

How do I measure zero-click visibility?

Look at impressions as well as clicks. Search Console's Performance report shows impressions per page and query, and its generative AI report shows impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode.

Then count visits that arrive from AI assistants in your analytics, because ChatGPT, Perplexity and others do send some. easyIndex records those AI visits and which AI crawlers read each page, next to Search Console.

Common mistakes

  • Quoting one zero-click percentage as if it applied to every business and every query.
  • Judging a page only by clicks when its impressions are growing.
  • Writing pages only for definitions that the results page already answers.
  • Deleting the website because of zero-click statistics.

How easyIndex solves it

Your coding agent builds pages for the questions that still bring visits, over MCP; easyIndex audits each page, checks it live, notifies Bing via IndexNow and measures AI visitors and AI crawler reads next to Search Console, and records which sources ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini cite for your tracked questions in the monthly citation scan your agent runs. US$ 30 per website a month, with a 7-day free trial.

Frequently asked questions

Is SEO dead because of zero-click search?

No. The answers on the results page and in AI assistants are drawn from indexed websites, so being indexed and clear still decides whether you are shown.

Do AI Overviews make zero-click worse?

Pew's 2025 data showed fewer clicks on results when an AI summary appeared: 8% of visits against 15% without one.

Can I stop Google showing my content without a click?

You can limit snippets with nosnippet controls, but Google says pages need to be eligible for a snippet to appear in AI features, so you would also leave them.

What should a small business track instead of clicks?

Impressions per page in Search Console, visits from AI assistants, and the visits to the pages where people compare, check prices or contact you.
