Is Lovable bad for SEO? Can Google and ChatGPT see my Lovable site?

Not by design anymore, according to Lovable's own docs. Apps created from May 13, 2026 render on the server, and older React + Vite apps get pre-rendered HTML served to Google, Bing and AI crawlers such as ChatGPT's. Only published public apps can be indexed, and being readable is not being cited: the pages still need content that answers what buyers ask.

Facts

  • Lovable says new apps created from May 13, 2026 use TanStack Start with server-side rendering, so every request returns rendered HTML. (Lovable docs: Optimize your app for SEO and AI search)
  • Lovable says older React + Vite apps render in the browser, and eligible older projects can be upgraded to TanStack Start. (Lovable docs: FAQ)
  • For older apps, Lovable pre-renders deployed public pages on request for Google, Bing, social preview bots and AI engines, naming 4: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini. (Lovable docs: Optimize your app for SEO and AI search)
  • Lovable says third-party SEO scanners and other unverified agents see the regular single-page app, so their results may not match what Google or AI crawlers see. (Lovable docs: Optimize your app for SEO and AI search)
  • Lovable's FAQ says Enterprise workspaces create new apps on TanStack Start from June 22, 2026, about 6 weeks after the May 13, 2026 switch for other workspaces. (Lovable docs: FAQ)
  • Lovable's Git sync works with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, and commits pushed to the synced branch appear in the Lovable project. (Lovable docs: Git sync)

How does my Lovable site render?

It depends on when the project was created. Lovable's docs describe two cases:

ProjectHow pages renderWhat crawlers get
Created from May 13, 2026 (TanStack Start)On the server (SSR)Rendered HTML on every request
Older (React + Vite)In the browserPre-rendered HTML for verified search, social and AI crawlers; other agents get the app shell

How do I test what Google and ChatGPT see, for free?

Test the published URL, not the preview. On an SSR project, fetching the page without a browser should show its text. On an older project, that fetch shows the app shell even when crawlers get pre-rendered HTML, so use Google Search Console's URL Inspection, "Test live URL", then "View tested page" to see the HTML Google received.

# 1. Is the text in the HTML the server sends? (new SSR apps should pass)
curl -s https://www.your-site.com/pricing | grep -i "a sentence from the page"

# 2. Older React + Vite apps: this test shows the empty app shell even when
# crawlers get pre-rendered HTML, because Lovable only pre-renders for
# verified crawlers. Use Google's URL Inspection > Test live URL instead.

Why does an SEO scanner say my Lovable site is empty?

Because, per Lovable, third-party scanners are unverified agents and receive the single-page app, not the pre-rendered HTML. On an older project, a scanner's empty-page warning does not show what Google or ChatGPT's crawler receives.

Can a coding agent keep working on my Lovable site?

Yes, through Git sync. Lovable creates a new repository on GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket and keeps one branch in sync both ways, so Claude Code, Codex or Cursor can add pages in that repo and the commits come back to Lovable. You cannot connect an existing repository.

If crawlers can read it, why am I not in ChatGPT's answers?

Being readable only removes a blocker. ChatGPT cites pages that answer the question asked; a site with a home page and a pricing page usually has nothing that answers the questions buyers type.

Step by step

  1. Publish publicly. Only published public apps can be indexed; private and unpublished URLs never are.
  2. Check how it renders. Find out whether the project is TanStack Start or older React + Vite, and upgrade if Lovable offers it.
  3. Inspect the live URL. Run URL Inspection's "Test live URL" in Search Console and read the HTML Google received.
  4. Connect Git sync. Connect GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket so a coding agent can work in the repository.
  5. Add answer pages. Have the coding agent add pages that answer your buyers' questions, then check them on the live site.

Common mistakes

  • Trusting a third-party SEO scanner on an older Lovable app; Lovable says scanners see the app shell.
  • Testing the preview link instead of the published URL.
  • Expecting to connect an existing repository; Lovable creates a new one.
  • Pushing commits to a branch that is not the synced one and wondering why Lovable does not show them.

How easyIndex solves it

easyIndex works with a coding agent that has access to the website's repository: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity, Gemini CLI or any other MCP client. With Git sync on, easyIndex fits a Lovable site well: your coding agent works in the synced repository and easyIndex gives the steps over MCP, audits each new page, checks it on the live site and never touches the site itself. Frequently asked questions

Do I need an external pre-rendering service on Lovable?

Lovable says Lovable-hosted projects do not need one. Projects hosted elsewhere are outside what that page covers.

Is the May 13, 2026 date the same for every workspace?

No. Lovable's FAQ says Enterprise workspaces moved to TanStack Start for new apps from June 22, 2026.

Does Lovable guarantee rankings?

No. Lovable says ranking still depends on factors outside its control, such as content quality, backlinks and competition.

Can I keep editing in Lovable after a coding agent changes the repo?

Yes. Commits pushed to the synced branch appear in the Lovable project, and Lovable's edits are committed to the repository.
