How do I read the AI Overviews and AI Mode report in Search Console?
The generative AI report counts impressions only: how many times links to your site were shown in AI Overviews and AI Mode, together, by page, country, device and date. It shows no clicks or queries. Google announced it on June 3, 2026 and says it reached all websites by August 31, 2026; an empty report usually means too few AI impressions.
Facts

What does each part of the report show?
The report is one chart and one table of impressions, grouped by the dimension you choose.
| Part | What it tells you |
|---|---|
| Impressions | Times a link to your site was shown in AI Overviews or AI Mode |
| Pages | Which URLs were shown; a URL filter counts per URL instead of per site |
| Countries and devices | Where and on what device the AI answers appeared |
| Dates | Trend in Pacific Time; the newest data is preliminary and drawn as a dotted line |
| Search type | Web text, or Web multimodal for Lens and Circle to Search |
What does the report not show?
It answers only whether Google showed your link in an AI feature, not what happened next:
- No clicks, click-through rate or average position
- No queries that triggered the AI answer
- No split between AI Overviews and AI Mode
- No data from Search Labs experiments
Why don't I see the report in my account?
Google says a missing report usually means the site has not received enough impressions in generative AI features; a site excluded from those features also has none. Publishing indexed pages that answer specific questions is the way to earn impressions.
How do I know if AI answers bring me visitors?
Pair the impressions with real visits. easyIndex records visitors who arrive from AI assistants per page, next to your Search Console data, so you can see which pages are shown in AI answers and which ones bring people.
Step by step
- Open the report. In Search Console, open the generative AI performance report for Search, next to the regular performance reports.
- Group by page. Switch the table to Pages to see which URLs Google shows in AI features.
- Compare periods. Compare weekly or monthly ranges, ignoring the preliminary dotted part of the chart.
- Check clicks elsewhere. Open the regular performance report for clicks; AI impressions are part of its totals, so do not add them twice.
- Match with AI visits. Compare the pages with impressions against the pages that receive visitors from AI assistants.
Common mistakes
- Adding AI impressions to the main performance report's total, which already includes them.
- Reading impressions as clicks or as citations people read.
- Judging the newest day from preliminary data that may still change.
- Concluding the site is invisible in AI from Google's report alone, without checking other assistants.
How easyIndex solves it
easyIndex connects Search Console at the start and shows it next to the visitors that come from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity and the pages AI crawlers read, while your coding agent builds the pages over MCP. US$ 30 per website a month, with a 7-day free trial.
Frequently asked questions
Does the report separate AI Overviews from AI Mode?
No. Google's help page describes one report with impressions from both features together.
Can I get the data through the Search Console API?
Google's help page does not describe API access for this report; check it before building on it.
Is there a similar report for ChatGPT?
No. OpenAI offers no such report, but it adds utm_source=chatgpt.com to links, so ChatGPT visits show up in analytics and in easyIndex.
Do more AI impressions mean more customers?
Not by themselves. Impressions say your link was shown; visits and what people do after arriving are what show results.
